The City of Lafayette is located in Lafayette Parish. There are only two states in the USA in which counties are called something other than counties - Alaska and Louisiana. And that's not all that's unique about our area. Our culture is colorful, with a heritage as mixed and unique as any in the world. Acadiana is a region unlike any other in the United States because everything here is accented by French history and heritage. Acadiana is proud of its past and especially of the fact that it forms a vital part of the present.
