(You can see that the downtown city of Golden is sheltered by the surrounding foothills of the Rocky Mountains.)
Golden is a wonderful, vibrant, small, affluent community of almost 18,000 people and is the home of the Colorado School of Mines, founded in 1874. The School of Mines is one of the finest mining and engineering schools in the country. The town sets at the base of the great Rocky Mountains and has an elevation of 5,675 feet. Golden is also home of Coors Brewery, which is, I am told; the nations largest single site brewery.
One can park in Golden and walk to almost all the shops. It is like one great big shopping center, full of boutiques, restaurants, and entertainment.
Golden is also the county seat for Jefferson County and is home of what many call the Taj Mahal, a very expensively built Government office. The voters did not vote to have it built; it was just constructed one day.
Golden is fun, steeped in history and a great place to live.
